Copper-clad laminate (clad board) is the most used and most important basic board for PCB proofing; it consists of three parts: copper foil, reinforcing material, and adhesive. Its function is to support various components and realize the electrical connection or electrical insulation between them. So, what are the classifications of PCB clad boards?
1. Classified by reinforcement material
The most commonly used reinforcement materials for foil-clad boards are alkali-free, glass fiber products or paper. Therefore, foil clad board can be divided into two categories: glass cloth base and paper base.
2. Classification by adhesive type
The adhesives used for foil-clad boards mainly include phenolic, epoxy, polyester, polyimide, polytetrafluoroethylene resin, etc. Therefore, foil-clad boards are also divided into phenolic type, epoxy type, polyester type, polyamide Imine type, PTFE type foil clad board.
3. Classified according to the characteristics of the substrate and its use
According to the burning degree of the base material in the flame and after leaving the fire source, it can be divided into general-purpose and self-extinguishing type; according to the bending degree of the base material, it can be divided into rigid and flexible foil-clad boards; according to the working temperature and working environment conditions of the base material It can be divided into heat-resistant type, radiation-resistant type, high-frequency foil-clad board, etc. In addition, there are foil-clad boards used in special occasions, such as prefabricated inner-layer foil-clad boards, metal-based foil-clad boards, and can be divided into copper foil, nickel foil, silver foil, aluminum foil, constantan foil, Copper foil clad board, etc.
4. Commonly used foil-clad board models
According to the regulations of GB4721-1984, the foil clad board is generally represented by a combination of five English letters: the first letter C represents the copper foil covered, and the second and third letters represent the adhesive resin used for the base material. Such as: PE means phenolic; EP means epoxy; uP means unsaturated polyester; SI means silicone; TF means polytetrafluoroethylene, etc. The fourth and fifth letters indicate the reinforcement material selecte for the base material. Such as: CP means cellulose fiber paper; GC means alkali-free glass fiber cloth, etc.
The two numbers on the right side of the horizontal line in the model number indicate the product number of the same type but different performance. For example, the number of copper-clad phenolic paper laminates is 01~20, and the number of copper-clad epoxy paper laminates is 21~30.
If the letter F is added after the product number, it means that the foil-clad board is self-extinguishing.
